PAC Insider - April 2014

Message from the Chair

Thomas Tape, MD, FACP

This is my last communication to you as Chair of ACP Services PAC. My term ends at the conclusion of Internal Medicine 2014. Together we have accomplished a great deal over the past year. The PAC raised more money in 2013 than in any other previous year: nearly $166,000, up from $157,493 in 2012, our previous high. We also had more members—54—contribute at the Leadership Club level, our highest giving category, than ever before, up from 44 members in 2012. Thank you all for your generous support.

As I look back, I am especially proud of the role the PAC continues to play in helping ACP Services members running for election or reelection: Rep. Ami Bera, MD, FACP (D-07-CA), is running for reelection; Rep. Bill Cassidy, MD, FACP (R-06-LA), is challenging a three-term Senate incumbent; and Manan Trivedi, MD, MPP, is running for Pennsylvania's open 6th district House seat. What better way toshape health policy than by electing more internists to the House and Senate on November 4!

So far in 2014, we have raised nearly $100,000 from 325 members. Our goal is $200,000, which would be the most the PAC has ever raised in a single year. If you have not yet rejoined the PAC for 2014, please help me finish my term strong by becoming a member today (you will be prompted for your ACP username and password.) Your contribution is instrumental in our ability to support the campaigns of our internal medicine colleagues who are running for Congress and other candidates who support our legislative priorities.

Thank you for your support.
