Transportation to Capitol Hill from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel

Leadership Day 2018, which is being held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel located at 1330 Maryland Ave., SW, Washington, DC, is relatively close in proximity to Capitol Hill but not within easy walking distance (20-30 minute walk). The closest metro station to the hotel is the Smithsonian Metro Station.  Cabs will also be available in front of the hotel to take you to Capitol Hill. Attendees are responsible for these transportation costs.

Here are some options:

Taxi/Cabs

  • Cabs will be available outside the entrance of the hotel to take you to Capitol Hill on May 23.
  • The hotel is typically a 10-15 minute cab ride to Capitol Hill.
  • It should cost approximately $10 (non-rush hour) or $12 (rush hour) for a one way trip to Capitol Hill.

Metro Rails

From the Hotel: Metro to the House Side of the Capitol:

  • While in front of the hotel, walk a short distance Northeast
  • Bear right onto Maryland Ave SW.
  • Walk approx. 1 block East on Maryland Ave SW.
  • Turn left on 12th St SW.
  • Walk approx. 2 blocks North on 12th St SW.
  • Turn right on Independence Ave SW.
  • Walk a short distance East on Independence Ave SW.
  • Enter the Smithsonian metro station at 12th St SW & Independence Ave SW
  • Take the Silver or Blue line (toward Largo Town Center) or the Orange line (toward New Carrollton).
  • Get off at the Capitol South Metro stop.
  • Cost: $2.25 (one way); travel time approximately 30 minutes, if no delays

From the Hotel: Metro to the Senate Side of the Capitol:

  • While in front of the hotel, walk a short distance Northeast
  • Bear right onto Maryland Ave SW.
  • Walk approx. 1 block East on Maryland Ave SW.
  • Turn left on 12th St SW.
  • Walk approx. 2 blocks North on 12th St SW.
  • Turn right on Independence Ave SW.
  • Walk a short distance East on Independence Ave SW.
  • Enter the Smithsonian metro station at 12th St SW & Independence Ave SW
  • Take the Silver Line (toward Wiehle Reston East) or the Blue line (toward Franconia-Springfield) or the Orange line (toward Vienna)
  • Get off at the Metro Center stop; and transfer to the Red Line
  • Take the Red Line (toward Glenmont).
  • Get off at the Union Station metro stop and, once outside, walk towards the Capitol (look for the dome).
  • Cost: $2.25 (one way); travel time approximately 35-40 minutes, if no delays

Please be advised that during rush hour times (early morning/late afternoon) both the metro system and taxi service can be busy so please plan accordingly.
